Need medication?
Prescription for medication is given by family doctors (see above). All pharmacies provide medication for Ukrainians on prescription from the family doctors.
What care can be provided?
For all displaced Ukrainians with a Citizen's Service Number (BSN), healthcare costs will be reimbursed from the Regulation for Medical Care of Displaced Persons from Ukraine (RMO) as of July 1, 2022. Through this new scheme, health care and medication will be available that is included in the basic package of the basic health insurance. Moreover, as of July 1, 2022, the RMO will reimburse specific care that falls outside the basic package. This includes, for example, the reimbursement of dental care in case of acute pain (up to €250), contraception and abortion care, glasses and hearing aids (with prior permission), and certain medications. The health care package is similar to the Medical Care Regulations for Asylum Seekers (RMA). You do not have to do anything yourself to qualify for the RMO, except to be registered with the BRP.
For Ukrainians who are not registered with the BRP, the health care provider can claim the costs incurred, just as it used to be before July 1, through the Subsidy Scheme for Medically Necessary Care for Uninsured Persons (SOV) of the CAK. The rule that it concerns only the care from the basic package (that is, no dental care) continues to apply.
For both the RMO and the reimbursement via the subsidy scheme of the CAK, no personal contribution is needed. You do not have to pay anything to the care provider for the costs covered by the scheme. The care provider will claim the costs back from the government himself.
Do I need to take out health insurance?
No, as of August 1, the insurance obligation for Ukrainians who are working ceases to apply. Normally, all people who work in the Netherlands have to take out Dutch health insurance. This also used to apply for Ukrainians who started working here, but an exception has now been made for you. People who started working before August 1, or who are already working and are not yet insured, are advised not to take out an insurance any more. As of August 1, all insurance policies already taken out will be terminated by the health insurance company.
More information about health care and payment, also in Ukrainian, is provided on the website zorgverzekeringslijn.
The Refugee Council can also help you with questions about payments for health care.
Psychological help
As a result of the war, you may experience a lot of stress, restlessness, worry and sadness. Unfortunately, it is not possible to free you from those feelings. What can help is to find each other, talk about it and support each other. Seeking distraction in, for example, doing exercise and activities can also help as well as relaxation exercises.
If that does not help enough and psychological complaints continue, psychological help is available:
Social work
Social work offers help with light psychological complaints and/or social problems. Social workers from Participe can help you find several other forms of support.
Access to this support is via Vadim at Participe (call 06-15005959).
Social work offers an intake interview and, depending on the situation, 3 to 5 follow-up interviews. Russian speaking psychologists are also involved as social workers.
World psychologists
The website wereld psycologen has information in Ukrainian.
The World Psychologists Foundation offers free mental health care through (video) conference calls. Sign up (people can do it themselves) via wereldpsychologen@gmail.com.
Serious psychological and psychiatric complaints and/or in need of medication?
Do you have serious longterm psychological complaints or psychiatric problems? Or do you need (repeated) medication for psychological complaints or psychiatric disorders? Then contact your family doctor.

Dental Care
Dental care is reimbursed for children under the basic insurance. This can therefore be reimbursed to dentists via the CAK. Dental care for adults is not included in the basic healthcare package and dentists cannot receive reimbursement through the CAK.
For children you can contact your own dentist. This is also possible for adults, but then your dentist will either have to be willing to treat you for free, or they will charge a fee.
A number of dentists in Aalsmeer have signed up to provide essential treatments for adults with severe acute pain free of charge, if they do not have insurance or the means to pay for dental care themselves.

Youth Health Care
If a child is ill, or in case of urgent concerns and questions about infants and young children -> Medical care through family doctors (see above).
What is the Dutch Youth Health Care (JGZ)?
The JGZ (the consultation office) provides vaccinations and monitors the growth, health and development of children from pregnancy to age 23. The JGZ implements the National Vaccination Program, including the 22-week shot for pregnant women against whooping cough.
For what cases can they help you?
- Questions about nutrition, sleep and parenting
- Concerns about their child's growth and development. Children can also be measured and weighed.
- Vaccinations: The JGZ provides information about vaccination campaigns and can administer vaccinations. The JGZ has looked into the regular vaccination program of Ukraine and based on this, can continue the vaccination schedule of Ukrainian children in the Netherlands.
For now, this is mainly meant for refugees with children aged from 0 to 4 years old.
For appointments please call: 020-555 5964; available from Monday to Friday, between 8 am to 5 pm. Address in Aalsmeer and Kudelstaart: Drie Kolommenplein 1E, Aalsmeer.
After registration in the BRP, parents and their children from 0 to 4 years of age are invited to come in phases for an introductory consultation at the JGZ to start the health care. Priority is given to the youngest children. In time, children over the age of 4 will also be invited for vaccinations.
You can call or drop by to make an appointment.
Do you not speak English or Dutch? Then bring someone along with you who speaks English to help with the translation.
Youth health care is offered free of charge.
Corona Care
Tests in the event of symptoms
Do you have symptoms such as a cold, sore throat, coughing, sneezing, fever or no smell or taste? Take a corona test! Corona tests are available at the hotels and can be picked up for free.
Quarantine in case of infection
If you are infected with corona must go into quarantine. If the family is staying in one room, the whole family must be quarantined. Quarantine should last until you have been symptom-free for 24 hours and at least 5 days. The family members can then take a test at the GGD afterwards. If the test is negative, they may also stop the quarantine.
Vaccination against corona
You may walk in for vaccinations without an appointment at the RAI building in Amsterdam and Bovenkerkerweg 6 in Amstelveen.
Hygiene measures
Basic measures to prevent spreading: wash hands regularly, sneeze or cough into elbow, do not shake hands.
Healt care for pregnant women
Pregnancy counseling in the Netherlands is provided by midwives. If you are pregnant, register with a midwife near your place of residence.
