On and beside the water
It has been described as the Amsterdam region’s best kept secret. Within its boundaries, Aalsmeer has a wonderful nature area, ideal for watersports: the Westeinderplassen. A boat trip to explore the leafy islands makes for a true adventure. Time to reveal the secret!
Boat tour
There’s no better way to enjoy the lakes and islands than a boat tour. Along the way the captain will tell you about the local history and wildlife. Sit back and relax!
Water tower
On the lakeside stands the pride of Aalsmeer: a 50-metre-high water tower in Art Deco style, built in 1928 and designed by architect Hendrik Sangster. The tower is regularly open to the public, and the view from the top is spectacular! A former ‘water cellar’ across the street now houses Galerie Sous-Terre, with a wide variety of modern art.
Lakeside dining
Complete your day out with lunch or dinner at one of the inviting waterside restaurants, some of which have their own mooring places. Enjoy the good life with a view of the lake and a drink at your elbow.
